A Dotmatics AI write-up is not a reviewed scientific conclusion

Dotmatics presents an electronic lab notebook that can organize experimental records and support AI-assisted write-ups and analysis. Generated text can accelerate review, but it cannot establish that the source data, method, interpretation, attribution, or scientific conclusion is correct.

Treat generated text as a derived record

Dotmatics' public ELN record supports experiment documentation and describes AI-assisted write-ups and analysis. The direct answer is that fluent text does not become a scientific conclusion merely because it is grounded in an ELN. The selected inputs may be incomplete, mislabeled, superseded, out of scope, statistically insufficient, or disconnected from instrument and sample context.

For each generated artifact, retain the experiment and record identifiers, source files and versions, selection logic, prompt or task definition where governance permits, model or service identity, configuration, generation time, output, citations or field links, warnings, edits, reviewer, decision purpose, and approval state. The original data and authored observations should remain distinguishable from generated synthesis.

Require scientific review at the intended decision boundary

Different uses carry different consequences. A draft experiment summary, search aid, internal handoff, method comparison, regulated report input, patent-supporting narrative, batch-related interpretation, and external publication do not share one review standard. The organization should define allowed uses, excluded data, required expertise, verification steps, and signature meaning for each class.

Reviewers should inspect sample identity, method and version, instrument status, calibration and suitability context, units, transformations, exclusions, controls, replicate handling, statistical method, deviations, images or spectra, and conflicting observations. Approval should attest to the reviewed scientific record and intended use, not to the general capability of the generation feature.

Test omission, contradiction, and change

A buyer test should include incomplete experiments, superseded files, duplicated samples, conflicting results, failed controls, corrected metadata, unusual units, negative findings, long attachments, images, structured tables, access-restricted data, revoked records, and a source changed after generation. Reviewers should see whether the output omits, blends, invents, or misattributes material evidence.

Measure source-link precision, unsupported statements, numerical fidelity, unit preservation, omission rate, edit history, reviewer time, access-control inheritance, regeneration behavior, and audit export. Also test model or service unavailability, version changes, retention, external processing boundaries, and whether a signed record can be regenerated without obscuring the original approved artifact.

Keep Dotmatics' claims inside the source boundary

The registered Dotmatics page establishes current provider positioning for an electronic lab notebook with experiment records, search, collaboration, electronic signatures, audit trails, and AI-assisted work. It does not establish scientific validity, source completeness, statistical correctness, regulatory acceptability, validated-state suitability, authorship, intellectual-property effect, or decision quality.

Lab Systems Index reviewed the registered source on August 16, 2026 and did not operate a customer deployment. Buyers should verify current feature scope, model and data boundaries, source linkage, permissions, audit history, signatures, validation documentation, retention, export, availability, and review controls with representative scientific records and accountable laboratory, quality, data, legal, and regulatory owners.

Enterprise buyer test

Translate this change into the exact population, record type, workflow stage, decision owner, effective date, and evidence that could be affected. Ask current or prospective providers to demonstrate the named workflow with representative data and an exception—not a polished feature tour. Record what official documentation establishes, what a provider states, what the team observes, and what remains unresolved.

A defensible review also identifies the dependency outside the product. Authority interpretation, policy configuration, data quality, integrations, human judgment, approval rights, release governance, training, and retained evidence may remain customer or service responsibilities. The evaluation should preserve those boundaries instead of treating a technology claim as the complete operating model.

What we will watch next

Lab Systems Index will watch the named source and affected market records for later evidence that changes status, scope, availability, implementation timing, workflow consequence, or the limits of the initial report. A later announcement does not silently overwrite this dated account; the change ledger preserves the sequence.
